How to play Substack of the Day

I described Substack of the Day last Friday. Feedback is favorable. So I’m launching Substack of the Day today! 😃

The rules of Substack of the Day

1. The first rule of Substack of the Day is to talk about Substack of the Day. By “talk,” I mean post a link to the nominee along with the hashtag #SubstackOTD. If you’d like, say why you’re nominating the newsletter or post/discussion.

2. I assume most nominations will occur on Twitter. If you prefer to post elsewhere or not post at all, feel free to email me your nomination, ideally with Substack of the Day or #SubstackOTD in the title of your message. [Update 8/2/21: I intend to collect emailed nominations and post them on Twitter. For the moment, emailed nominations will be anonymous. But I imagine some people/entities will want to publicize that they made the nomination. I’ll think about how to handle that.]

3. You can nominate any newsletter or post, recent or not, in any language, that you or anyone else has published in a Substack newsletter. [Update 8/4/21: If you nominate a newsletter, I might choose a post in that newsletter for Substack of the Day. Or the whole newsletter. Depends on time and/or prior familiarity with the newsletter.]

4. Every nominated newsletter or post is a winner 🥇 if more people will notice and read it. I’m no better judge of Substack of the Day than anyone else, especially since I might not have time to read every nominee. However, I’ll choose one newsletter or post as “the winner” as best and as often as I can. [Update 8/9/21: I might choose a post or newsletter that wasn't nominated. I hope that, eventually, there are so many nominations that I'll almost always choose a nominee.]

5. The last rule of Substack of the Day is that there are no rules. The main goal is to let people know about good newsletters and posts. If you do that, in my view you’re playing the game the right way!
