Interview with Ash from "Pothead Productivity"
Since I’m writing this on 4/20, it seems appropriate that the following interview is with Ash from the Pothead Productivity newsletter.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm an author and professional writer with a medical marijuana card and an obsessive need to stay productive, even when blazed. Especially when blazed.
How would you describe your newsletter?
A brief, weekly-ish read about how to stay productive at work (and sometimes at home) while using medical or recreational marijuana. Between the rise in the amount of people working from home and the increase in legal consumption, I figure a lot of people are trying to come up with ways to be high without sacrificing productivity. Or is that just me?
Why did you decide to publish on Substack?
I have a lot of irons in the fire so I'm too busy to roll my own publishing solution. I subscribe to a fair amount of independent Substack newsletters and it seemed like a decent setup.
What has your experience with your newsletter been like?
I've been spectacularly enjoying myself. It's a nice change of pace from my work that pays the bills, and gives me the opportunity to write how, when, and what I want.
What have you liked most about your experience on Substack?
If it were any easier to use, it would write my content for me. Seriously. I think the amount of time between setting up my account and publishing the first issue of my newsletter was, like two hours max.
What have you liked least about your Substack experience?
Unfortunately, I've come to dislike Substack for a variety of reasons, from their crappy text editor (which I knew going in) to their questionable business choices (which I didn't).
How have you let people know about your newsletter?
Eh, I really haven't promoted it much. I sometimes drop a link into relevant reddit groups that allow self-promotion, but that's about it. I guess I really ought to do something about that!
Is there a post in your newsletter that you consider most memorable, and if so, why?
I had a good time with this one on how to organize your marijuana cartridges. No particular reason, it just gave me a giggle.
What do you hope for your newsletter in the foreseeable future?
I'd love to see it gain traction with the community I'm trying to reach. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but I think there's a decently-sized readership looking for the kinds of tips I have to offer. These are my people. My friends. My collective, group, guild. My squad. My Crew. I'd like to get to know them and share ideas. Plus, stoners are fun.
Is there anything you'd like to add?
Thanks for including me in your project!
