While I continue working on a post about Astral Codex Ten, I thought I should briefly explain what “Sub Pub" means.
“Sub” is for “Substack.” Of course.
I presume the “Sub" in “Substack" stands for “subscription.”
(The “stack" is probably the platform that facilitates subscriptions.)
I considered names that contained “Substack,” like “Substackorama,” “Substackception,” and “I Put a Substack in Your Substack.” 😉
But I didn't want anyone to think this newsletter is a publication of Substack Inc. The newsletter is on and about Substack – but it isn't Substack!
So my choices were “Sub Pub" and “Stack Shack.” I decided that “Sub Pub" sounded better – and that “Pub" was also meaningful.
So what does “Pub" mean? It stands for “publication,” which is surely related to “newsletter.”
“Pub” is also, well, a pub.
I hope “Sub Pub" will be a place where everybody knows your name – or at least can find and appreciate your newsletter and other good newsletters.
And I hope Sub Pub will be a community where everyone will benefit in learning more about Substack and newsletters.
