While some creators on Substack have editors, colleagues, or employers with influence over what they publish, I think most creators are going solo.
With great freedom comes great responsibility:
choosing and researching topics
writing well
responding to subscribers and others in the newsletter's audience
marketing
staying on task
staying on schedule
etc…
Do you sometimes wish you had an editor, colleague, or employer?
How do you handle responsibilities of your newsletter?
Radical thought: If someone (at Substack, a fellow newsletter, or elsewhere) offered light editing, constructive critiques, or some other helpful service, would you accept or pay for it?
(Personally, when I think “editor,” I picture Jason Robards as Ben Bradlee in “All the President's Men.” I don't know about you, but I'd be a little afraid to write anything for that guy.)
This post hits on the biggest problem I've run into in trying to convert my newsletter from a blog into a research-driven, article-based newsletter: I have no editor and it sucks. To be more specific, I often wish I had a copy editor (instead of a content editor) as there are too many times when I get an issue done only to find two or three sometimes embarrassing typos the next day. So, to answer your question, yes, I do wish I was not working completely independently, but, on the other hand, the freedom to do exactly whatever I want is not to be taken for granted.

I often find typos the next day (or 2 weeks later)... I just correct them as i find them.
