This is such an interesting project. Thank you for doing it. It does bring up two questions though. One, my first thought was that I should have put a hashtag at the front of my newsletter title so it would rank more highly. I'm not going to change anything, but how would that play ethically if I did? Is that just algorithm hacking or is that line-cutting of a sort? And that leads into the second question of when and how the inevitable curation begins. Will we, as authors, be able to do anything to make sure our newsletters stay visible in the mix? I guess what I mean is that with a traditional blog, you can beat SEO into submission and make your page appear higher or more frequently in search results; Substack is just using an alphabetical list right now, but what about when they change that? Food for thought, I guess.
A couple of newsletters on the list so far somehow avoided alphabetical purgatory and ended up at the top, seemingly out of order. Maybe they have an invisible character at the start. I'll check that later. In general, I suppose I'm neutral about gamesmanship, as long as it's available to everyone.
As for curation, I feel that it can be good. (I offer to paid subscribers the possibility of compiling a list of newsletters of interest to them.) But I like the idea of a list, spreadsheet, directory, or searchable database of all newsletters, alongside any curated version. And may the most useful newsletters or posts appear when people look for them, in spite of any non-substantive SEO.
Wow! What a great resource! Thank you so much! And thanks for including my newsletter. Just this AM I launched a sister newsletter strictly for writers and writing. Could you please add it to your list? It's here: https://writereverlasting.substack.com/
I just opened that link in a browser other than my usual one and got that error too – for a moment. Then the profile loaded. I wonder if there's a glitch on Substack's end? Or maybe I'm using a non-canonical address for the profile? 🤔 I'll try to figure this out...
Aha, I figured out the main problem. The link changed because I added my name in parentheses after the newsletter name. The address is now https://substack.com/profile/41762336-sub-pub-scott-frey. I've corrected the URL in the text.
I'm still concerned about the error message that I saw even with the current address. Hopefully it was just a one-time problem. I'm asking people on Twitter to see if the address loads without error. You can check too if you'd like.
By editing my profile I changed the URL to add "-scott-frey." I should ask Substack support to consider redirecting any version to the correct profile as long as it has the right number after "profile/".
Hey Scott! Just added my Substack to another post, but thought I’d include it here too to get added to the list. American Inequality uses data visualization to highlight US inequality topics that tend to get less attention. I think you’ll love it and I’d love if you can add it. https://americaninequality.substack.com/
Wow! I don't know if this project is still on but it's really amazing! Would love to be a part of it. Oh, and by the way you're really doing a great job with all the post. Your consistency is what stood out for me, you're doing a really great job!

Good questions.

I shall put two hashtags in front of my title. What? You raise me to three hastags?

Thanks so much.
I've added your list to my blogroll at Ramona's News from the Blogfront. I hope others add it, too.
The profile isn't working. I tried it on my blogroll and on here and I get this: {"error":"profile not found"}

It worked! I'll change it on my blogroll. Thanks.
Oops. Your Substack subscription list gets me the same error message. This is the url I'm using. https://substack.com/profile/41762336-sub-pub
