Today's 🤣 scene is from “When Harry Met Sally.” (It's arguably NSFW, especially if you turn the sound up.)
Maybe, sometimes, we all should have what she's having. Be uninhibited! Think different; express yourself; the only thing we have to fear is fear itself…
Are we gonna let de-elevator1 bring us down?
Oh no, lets go
Let's go crazy— Prince
I've got this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
So now I gotta cut loose
Footloose
Kick off the Sunday shoes
Why so serious?
Why so many footnotes?4
I picked a helluva week for 🤣 Week. Not the world's best week ever. But if not now, when?5
I don't know why we're on this planet. But it's not to stress out, live someone else's conception of our life, be afraid.6
It's wise to be serious sometimes. But not all the time!
Dream, play, experiment, enjoy, love. Make new friends; reconnect with old friends. Help people, help yourself – even when the situation isn't funny, helping can make you and the people you've helped happier. At the right moment, be a bit silly – break the tension.
The pandemic limits the things we can do. Governments limit things we can do, sometimes for good reasons. So be careful (don't be reckless!) – but be creative!
All this applies to your “work” on Substack. If your topic is serious, gain happiness from communicating. If your topic isn't serious, have fun!
And then someone might say, “I'll have what she's Substacking.” (Or he or they. Sally represents women in the movie, but could represent anyone.)
Enough preaching. (I don't have a preacher's license.) Be Sally!
Yes, “de-elevator" is the actual lyric. I never knew; did you?
“Loggins,” not “Logins,” even if autocorrect insists.
Not a typo. There's an exclamation point in P!nk. This furthers my argument.
Because footnotes are funny. See Noah Webster, Footnotes Are, Like, So Funny!, [no citation].
I've stopped trying to footnote everything. Footloose > Footnotes
One more footnote. In another scene, Sally is very particular about her order at the restaurant. You might say she's being too serious. But no! She's free; she's asking for what she wants; she's not letting fear of any embarrassment stop her.
Hey, hey, hey! Scott Frey! You are communicating excellence! I chime in right with you. BING go! I have a sense of humor somewhere around here, but with my arthritis perking up it hurts. And you fill up my senses like night in the forest... ouch! Laughter is good. Funny is good. So why so serious I tell myself? Because I'm not as funny as you, but I'll try. Like my mom often said, "I'm laughing so hard right now, means I'm gonna cry later." So much not funny. Darn, it's hard to be funny when all around everything crashing down. Well, I'll try funny. Thank you. I really enjoy your posts. Thank you. Who's gonna tell me, who said that... make em laugh? Mel Brooks?
I needed this!!
